Stila vs Sephora Collection
Who doesn’t love a great dupe? This one is spot on, at least color wise!
So which is which? They look identical, right? Let’s have a closer look!
Can’t tell a difference?
Let’s see if there is a difference in color when they are on the lips.
Here’s a little comparison between the two on the lips. The top one is a lipswatch of Patina, the middle one is Marvelous Mauve and the last swatch is half/half (Marvelous Mauve on the left & Patina on the right). You honestly can’t see a difference, I wore them half/half for a full day to see how they compare in other categories and nobody noticed a color difference!
So let’s see how they hold up during the day.
After 3 hours both sides still looked perfectly fine!
They held up really equally! Since I wanted to see if there was any difference at all in terms of longevity I ate some lunch to see what happens.
Even after eating there was no huge difference between the two sides. Both faded a lot in the center of the lips and more or less held up around the lip lines. They both aren’t super long-wearing but if you do not eat or drink they do last a good amount of time. But even if you aren’t eating or drinking both of these liquid lipsticks are not completely smudge proof. They only transfer the tiniest bit though.
Let’s see how the companies describe their formulas.
On the Sephora Website it says:
“This high-coverage lip product features avocado oil for a texture that transforms as you wear it: when applied, the initial cream texture becomes a silky, lightweight stain. Lips achieve stunning color and feel soft and comfortable.”
While Stila says:
“The ultimate power pout! This creamy-matte, full-coverage lip color delivers bold, long-lasting color and stays in place for up to 6 hours of continuous wear. The texture is weightless on lips and comfortable. The color-rich formula will not bleed or transfer. Enriched with Vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick softens the lips so they look and feel beautiful!”
So even their formulas are extremely similar. They both have a moussey texture, which allow you quite some time to work with them before they completely dry. Once they are dry, they have a completely matte finish. Also both of the formulas contain Avocado oil and Vitamin E. If you have a look at their websites also the rest of the ingredients are almost identical!
The avocado oil makes them really comfortable to wear, they do not dry out your lips as much as other liquid lipsticks do.
As I mentioned before (at least on my lips) they are not completely bleed or transfer proof.
They have the EXACT SAME scent, I swear! To me it has some kind of vanilla scent.
Price for value
Sephora: 0.169 fl. oz/ 5ml for 14$
Stila: 0.08 fl. oz /2.4 ml for 24$
Sephora is a clear winner here!
I only own the travel size “Patina” but the packaging of the original one is exactly the same only the tube is bigger. I like the Stila one a lot more because I love everything gold and it looks and feels a lot more luxurious than the Sephora one.
Both of the liquid lipsticks have an extremely pigmented formula, you only need one swipe to get an even color application.
I personally like the the applicator of “Marvelous Mauve” better because it’s more compact which makes it easier to work with. My lip swatches actually show that I had quite a hard time getting my lips even with the Stila applicator.

Marvelous Mauve” is definitely a great dupe for “Patina” color and formula wise! I personally even like the applicator of “Marvelous Mauve” better! Points for packaging definitely go to Stila though.
After all they are both amazing products and it totally depends on what categories are important to you!
