Sleek MakeUP| Matte ME liquid lipsticks-Review and comparison between the original and new colors!

Everything was better in the good old days? – We will see!
I thoroughly tested the new and original shades for the last few weeks – the day of selecting the winner has finally come!

Packaging (new vs old)

The packaging looks really sleek – what a bad pun to start this blogpost, I know!
But it really is, the black cap makes the lipstick look really elegant. At least to me the packaging looks and feels pretty high-end, thats why I’m really happy they didn’t change it! The clear tubes also allow you to see the actual colors, which is another big plus  for me!

Packaging

The packaging is still exactly the same!

Shade Range

Sleek Matte Me whole collection

The original shades include lots of bright, fun colors:

  • 2 nudes
  • 2 bright neon colors
  • a bright red
  • and an intense purple

The newer ones on the other hand are a lot more toned down. They include lots of “on trend” shades:

  • 2 gorgeous nudes
  • 2 dark reds
  • a dark mauve
  • and a dark wine shade

The only shade options I miss a little are some more variations of pinks and corals. I’d love to see some muted/wearable options but also more bright ones for Summer and Spring!

Formula (new vs old)

Sleek describes the formula as follows:

“Matte Me is a matte finish liquid lipstick that glides on in one smooth application, with no need for a second coat.
The light as air texture provides you with comfortable wear for hours, that doesn’t cake, flake or dry out, ensuring long lasting colour all day.”

It says this same description under every color, thats why I’m not 100% sure if they changed the formula or not. But I somehow definitely feel and also see some differences. I definitely think that the older colors had more of a runny, very liquidy formula, where as the newer ones are almost moussey.

I took these pictures right after applying the swatches, so you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about. You can see that the formula of the inital colors are more runny, thats why they look glossier right after the application. They also take a lot longer to dry down to a matte finish. As you can see in the picture above, “Shabby Chic” almost dried immediately whereas “Birthday Suit” is still wet.

new vs old

I somehow like the texture of the newer ones better, they are more opaque, less patchy and easier to apply.
Both the older and newer colors are really pigmented but I feel like the newer ones are even more pigmented.
The older formula -due to being more runny- unfortunately applies a bit streaky sometimes.

Longevity & Comfort (old vs new)

Both the new and the old colors are super long-wearing!

New

Before-after - new colors

Shabby Chic – before & after

The older colors do last a tiny bit longer on my lips though. BUT they are pretty drying! As you can see in the picture above, after wearing Birthday Suit for a whole day my lips looked a lot drier than after wearing Shabby Chic for the same amount of time. The newer colors are definitely a lot more comfortable to wear.

Application (new vs old)

We have a great improvement here! Let’s have a closer look at the applicators!

Matte Me- old applicator vs new one

The newer colors finally come with a “doe foot” applicator, which makes the application a lot easier. The old applicator was too long and not compact enough to shape the lip lines.

Other important facts:

  • not tested on animals
  • 6ml/0.2fl.oz
  • £4.99/ $7.

Clear winner for me are definitely the newer colors! They are more comfortable to wear, easier to apply and still last a good amount of time on my lips!
