Kiko x Lovegrove Limited Edition Wanderlust Trend Collection – Mirage Lip Stylo Review

I’ve been a Kiko lover for a long time, but this collection made me fall in love with this brand deeper than ever before. I’m a sucker for cute packaging and everything rose gold so there was no way I could walk past this collection when I saw it in store.
Back then I didn’t think (or at least my wallet was hoping) that I wouldn’t end up buying the whole Mirage Lip Stylo collection – but oh well… they all magically made their way into my basket.

(Ps: If you want to see all 16 colors swatched click here!)

As I said, the packaging was definitely what sold me first, so lets have a closer look at it.

Packaging

On their website it says:

“The product comes in a coral-tinged gold tube with an innovative magnetic closure. The sensual and ergonomic design is embellished with the KK logo on top and a raised, three-dimensional aspect.
Designer Ross Lovegrove created the packaging for the collection. He also decoded the DNA of the brand by identifying its KIKONESS, an essence of elegance, sensuality, femininity, breeziness and usefulness.”

The packaging is not only very pretty to look at, it also feels extremely high-end. I’m absolutely in love with the magnetic closure! It happened way too many times that I got lipstick all over my bag because the cap fell off. That definitely won’t happen with this lipstick since the magnetic closure is really strong.

Futurist Designer Ross Lovegrove did an outstanding job on the packaging, it looks and also feels very luxurious. Also due to its design it reflects light beautifully so you won’t have any trouble finding it in your purse!
On the bottom of the lipstick they all have a sticker with the shade number and color. If you store them upside down, it will be super easy to find the color you’re looking for!
The packaging definitely combines usefulness and elegance perfectly.

Shade Range

Kiko Milano originally launched 8 shades ranging from nudes to all kinds of bright and also dark colors. A few weeks ago they added 8 more shades to the range. In store here in Switzerland there was a sign where it said that these new shades were only around for a limited time which seems to be true because three of the new shades where already sold out when I went to pick them up. I then ordered these three shades online where all of the shades are still available up to date.
Since its a summer collection it includes lots of fun bright colors, which I love!
But also if you’re not into bright colors there will definitely be a color for you since they now offer 16 shades in total.

Formula

Kiko describes the formula as follows:

“Bold-coloured lipstick with a shiny finish. The innovative formula blends special pigments and waxes to offer the benefits of three products in one: the accuracy and colour payoff of a lipstick, the shine of a gloss and the extreme comfort of a balm.”

I totally agree, their formula makes them extremely pigmented (look at the swatches down below) and very comfortable to wear. Since the formula is so creamy it also doesn’t accentuate dry patches, which I love. I’ve been totally into the liquid lipstick trend but wearing these made me realize how much more comfortable creamy lipsticks actually are. When I was wearing those lipsticks I completely forgot that I had them on.

Longevity

Of course they do not last as long as matte lipsticks but they also do not claim to be long-wearing. So I was quite surprised that it lasted up to 4 hours without reapplying! Lipsticks that are this creamy usually do not last on my lips!
First picture shows the lipstick right after I applied it, the top right one is after 3 hours and the right one on the bottom shows how it looks after 5 hours after eating and drinking.
They fade in a nice way and leave a subtle stain on the lips.

Application

The round shape makes the application quite difficult. I had quite a hard time to get my cupids bow even. (see swatches above).
I’d recommend wearing a lipliner underneath them, that will also make them last longer.
Since the formula is extremely creamy and highly pigmented the color goes on really evenly and not patchy at all!

Finish

As I mentioned before I’m all about matte lipsticks but especially in Spring and Summer I love a glossy lip. I love the look of luscious glossy lips but I hate the sticky feeling that lipglosses often have. So if you’re like me and you love a glossy lip but hate the sticky feeling of a lipgloss, these lipsticks are for you!
